Apple Lossless explained
Audio downloads have, for a long time, only been available as compressed audio, such as MP3 or AAC files. These files are compressed by removing the parts of the music small computer speakers and headphones cannot reproduce. For pop music the differences are often indiscernable. However, with the rise of broadband and a desire to hear classical, jazz and other instrumental music in its full glory, other methods of compression have become available.
Apple Lossless Compression (ALC) reduces the file size of music without skipping any sound information. When the audio is played back from ALC format it is re-encoded to WAV, which is the file format that CDs store music as.
Once you have downloaded your purchase, unzip it to a folder of your choice. Open iTunes and choose Add file to Library… from the file menu. Navigate to the folder you just chose and select the new files. Click OK to add them to your iTunes, and you can now work with them in the normal way.
Why don’t you offer 24bit Apple Lossless?
- iTunes doesnt support 24bit recording and all Apple Lossless music files are automatically converted back to 16-Bit by iTunes.
