What is Plushmusic?

Plushmusic is a revolutionary new website dedicated to the production and enjoyment of the very highest quality live classical, jazz, contemporary and world music.

Is Plushmusic free to use?

Yes. Plushmusic is a free on-line music service. You can enjoy entire works and movements by simply clicking on a video window. Plushmusic’s revenue comes from sponsorship, from advertising, and from the sale of high-definition streams, recordings and videos of live concerts. We advertise our paid live streaming events on this website as and when they happen. We also sell our major releases in a number of popular formats.

Who is behind this?

Plushmusic is a new company founded by the cellist Adrian Brendel and saxophonist Hayden Chisholm, in partnership with the technology entrepreneur Stephen Jelley. It is run almost exclusively by professional musicians. Its executive producer is former Radio 3 producer Lyndon Jones. The site is produced by Matt Jolly and edited by Simon Ings.

What can I do at Plushmusic.tv?

Watch live webcasts of concerts, or download concerts after they happen in high-definition video and lossless, better-than-CD-quality sound.

Follow the careers of your favourite artists, plan your concert-going and book tickets. Explore our musician’s community by clicking the Artists tab at the top of your screen.

How do I find something to watch?

If you know what you’re looking for, use the Search feature in the top right-hand corner of the page.

The Releases tab contains high-quality content from the Plushmusic label. The Artists tab contains free-to-view material from the our musicians, ensembles and venues.

If you simply want to browse, click on a thumbnail image that interests you. A video or audio extract will open in a new page, together with related thumbnails, features and profiles. Click on a tag to view a list of all videos with that tag.

For a more structured exploration of the site, use the drop-down list of channels on the left-hand side of your screen.

What requirements must my system meet for me to enjoy Plushmusic.tv?

For the best experience, you should have a broadband internet connection and use Internet Explorer (version 6 or later), Firefox (version 2 or later) or Safari (version 3 or later).

Plushmusic.tv videos are streamed using the Adobe Flash Player. We recommend you install the latest version available from Adobe’s website

The videos don’t play – what’s wrong?

Please ensure your browser meets the minimum specifications listed above. A quick fix is usually to remove and re-install Adobe Flash Player.

To remove Flash, please follow Adobe’s instructions, listed on their site. Once you’re done, restart your computer and follow Adobe’s instructions for re-installing Flash.

If the videos still don’t play, your firewall may be blocking video playback. If temporarily disabling your firewall software enables video playback, please consult your firewall software vendor for advice.

Why does the video keep stopping and starting?

Watching video over the internet requires a stable broadband internet connection. Plushmusic.tv requires a broadband connection of 1Mbs or more for optimal viewing. If your connection is slower, it may not be able to keep up with the video.

At the foot of each video is a progress meter indicating both your position within a clip, and how much of the video has been buffered. You can try pausing the video to allow the clip to continue loading, then resume playback when buffering is complete.

We sell recordings of the perfomances featured on the site as audio and video downloads.

How do I buy music?

Videos on the site that have a download associated with them will have purchase options and more information nearby. Use one of the “Buy now” buttons to make your purchase, and then checkout using either Paypal or Google Checkout. When you have paid, you will be taken to a page where you can begin downloading the files.

Do I have to register as a member to use Plushmusic.tv?

No – and you’re very welcome to browse and watch videos as a guest. But if you register as a member (it’s quick, easy, and free) you can enjoy all the features of Plushmusic.tv

Why should i register and become a member of Plushmusic.tv?

Becoming a member of Plushmusic.tv is free, and allows you to enjoy everything the site offers. You’ll become part of an online community, able to create your own ‘channel’ featuring your favourite music and musicians, and able to discuss music with other members and the musicians themselves.

How do I register?

Click ‘Sign up’ in the top right-hand corner. There you will be asked to provide a working email address, your name and a screen name. Please choose your screen name carefully, as this cannot be changed.

I want to delete my Plushmusic.tv account

Log in, go to ‘Account’ and select ‘Close account’ from the menu.

What can I do if I have forgotten my password?

You can reset your password by selecting ‘Log in’ from the menu in the top right-hand corner, then clicking ‘I forgot my password’. Just enter your email address and a new password will be emailed to you. When you have logged in, you can change this password to something more memorable by clicking ‘Account’ in the top right-hand corner.

The password provided doesn’t work – what should I do?

Sometimes passwords seem not to work because one or more characters have been typed incorrectly. The best way to avoid typing errors is to copy and paste your password from the email into the website.

I didn’t receive my password – what should I do?

Your email system’s spam filters may be blocking Plushmusic.tv emails. Handling spam is a common difficulty, and your email system’s help pages should help you resolve the problem easily.
